Want to Know More? Originally created in March, 2010 this print titled, “Coach Tomlin” was the first real “visual biography” I created. With over 63 hours of “hand on” drawing time over a 2 month period, Coach Tomlin was created to be entered into the 2010 Penn Arts Spring Show. It had been over 15 years since I entered an art show, but I am pleased to say that I was awarded the “2010 Terry Fero Creative Expression Award.” Winning this award was so overwhelming and appreciated that it brought tears of joy to my eyes as suddenly I knew “Christopher’s Collages” was very much a reality.
I absolutely love Mike Tomlin! He is more than a superior coach; he is a role model and highly respected in our great city. It was a privilege to study his history and capture his inspirational story of success. I also love to hear him speak. For me, a Steelers game is not complete, win or lose, until I hear what the Coach has to say.
I spent countless hours researching Mike Tomlin and this artwork is filled with his numerous accomplishments. From his high school days and the “Denbigh Patriots” to being the youngest coach ever to win the Lombardi, it’s all in here. When I drew this tribute, I never imagined he would ever see it, but thanks to a friend, of a friend, of a friend, who knows Coach Tomlin–HE SAW IT! She gave it to him and I was told, “he loved it” and spent a lot of time going through all the personal images while laughing, pointing, and smiling. He was also gracious enough to sign one for me, my father, and my father-in-law. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I do and thanks Coach Tomlin for all that you do. Look close, do you see what I see?
